Meditation: Shamatha Calm-Abiding Meditation
Teaching topic: Commentary on the Five-Fold Path of Mahamudra
The commentary will continue each evening.
Mahamudra, The Great Seal, is one of the highest teachings of the Tantric Vajrayana and is especially taught within the Kagyu lineage. It was initially revealed to the great 10th century Mahasiddha Tilopa and has been transmitted by the masters ever since. The three qualities of the Mahamudra are the realization of emptiness of inherent existence, clarity of mind and the unimpeded nature of mind. The practice begins with Shamatha, Calm-Abiding Meditation and results in the transformation of every experience to be that of Mahamudra, which has often been referred to as "Tibetan Zen".

Teaching Topic: Commentary on the Six-Syllable Mantra of Avalokitesvara, The Bodhisattva of Compassion
The most practiced and very powerful mantra within all of Buddhism, OM MANI PADME HUNG, is loosely translated as BEHOLD! THE JEWEL IN THE LOTUS! The mantra refers to the merging of the physical body-posture of Meditation, the quieting and focusing of the intellect during Meditation and the realization of one's Mind in the heart as True Nature. Each Sanskrit "seed" syllable is "charged" with sacred meaning. The conventional result of the mantra recitation is unconditional compassion for oneself and all sentient beings. The absolute result is ultimate liberation from suffering.

Topic: Mahakala Empowerment and Mahakala Sadhana Practice
Mahakala or The Great Black One is a Dharma protector of the Drikung Kagyu lineage. His fierce form is actually a manifestation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokitesvara. It is said that when Avalokitesvara encountered too much negative power for his peaceful methods, he transformed himself into the wrathful Mahakala to overcome those degenerate beings of this age of darkness and protect them from their misguided behavior. Mahakala's activities include pacifying interferences, increasing favorable circumstances, gaining control over potentially negative situations and, if necessary, destroying obstacles with his powerful force. The Mahakala empowerment and explanation of the practice is rarely bestowed, this is a very special opportunity for serious and accomplished practitioners.

Teaching Topic: Commentary on selected Songs of Milarepa
The One Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa is as important to the study of Eastern philosophy as the Bible is to Western philosophy. Milarepa was an 11th century Buddhist poet and saint who as a young man spent many years purifying the sins of his tormented past. His teacher, Marpa Lotsawa the Translator, taught him well. Milarepa spent many years in deep meditation in the caves of Tibet and emerged a fully realized Buddha, who avoided the scholarly institutions of his time but instead roamed the countryside to the many villages in Tibet teaching the path to enlightenment thru his spontaneously composed songs. Wherever he went, crowds of people gathered to hear his "songs of the Dharma."
Please email if you would like to schedule a private interview with Lama Gursam
During the Spring Retreat Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen gave a commentary on Samsara and Nirvna, Two Sides of the Same Hand, a text he composed summarizing the Buddhist path of practice. Notes from these talks are now on this site.
